About this collection

There are approximately 1.5 million photographs in U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center archival collection. The images in the collection consist of some of the earliest forms of photography from daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tin types to salted paper, albumen and platinum prints to the more modern black and white and color photographs to recent born digital images. The collection represents the history of the United States Army and covers all major conflicts from the Civil War, the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, both World Wars to the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War era, the Persian Gulf War to current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
