The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center's Military History Institute executes several oral history programs, per AR 870-5. These oral histories are both biographical and topical in nature. An example of the biographical interview is the Senior Officer Oral History Program, interviewing former Army Chiefs of Staff, Vice Chiefs of Staff, and Combatant Commanders. Others include the Division Commander's Lessons Learned Program which takes in ready to depart Division Commanders of the 10 active duty divisions. Once complete, the final product is passed to the incumbant Division Commander as a read ahead of what to expect as a new Division Commander. An example of the topical interviews includes the Vietnam Company and Battalion Commander's Program. These interviews focus on a specific area of interest dictated by the USAHEC/MHI Leadership. Of the three programs, the DCLL is the only one not open for public use.
